Canada Has NO Monarch - End This Stupidity

"More than 60 percent of respondents feel that Canada's constitutional monarchy is outdated, the CBC reported. "This is devastating, truly devastating for the Prince of Wales, and he'll be very upset by it," Andrew Pierce, assistant editor of Britain's Daily Telegraph told the broadcaster, adding that Queen Elizabeth II "will be very disappointed too."

I personally don't give a crap if 'the prince of wales will be upset' ... too bloody bad! Canada has NO Queen. We don't need a 'Prince of Wales'. End this idiotic colonial nonsense once and for all.

-Not Just Separatists Want Prince Charles To Stay Away From Canada

-Canada's Future Should NOT Include A 'King Charles'!!

-Canada Needs To Ditch Queen Elizabeth

One way we could accomplish constitutional reform without too much difficulty would be to notionally preserve the monarchy, but change the rules of succession so that the Queen in Right of Canada is selected by a three-person panel consisting of the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition, and the Chief Justice of Canada:

As I have mentioned many times before, I am a strong monarchist...

...so long as the king is I.

Long live King Skinny D!

agree 100%

I hope that Queen DivaRachel agreed with me. :)

On the serious side, I think we could look at different models for selecting a Canadian head-of-state. We can elect a strong or ceremonial president (or both) or have Parliament choose a German-style ceremonial president.

Devin Johnston's suggestion is interesting. However, officially, the PM and opposition leader are just creatures of the current governor-general. They have no distinct constitutional status. It's better to let the MPs and Senators decide.

If we took the money we waste on the "Monarch" and started a bonfire with it, I would be just as thrilled.
