Troubles in 'Liberal Land'

Even though I haven't blogged for a few days, I have been keeping abreast of what is going in Liberal Land. It seems that Mr. Dion is not accepting his defeat very well. He feels betrayed and hurt apparently. Someone should tell Mr. Dion that in his bid to become Prime Minister of Canada, he was laying an offer on the table to be a SERVANT of the people of the nation. The role of a good 'leader' is to serve the people ... because after all, the people of this land is what Canada is all about. Somewhere along the way, Dion seems to have missed the point that regardless of what he wanted, it is the citizens 'wants' that are paramount. They did not want him to be their leader, and that's that. Case closed. Fini.

Pout if you must. Be hurt if that is your inclination.

The people of Canada decided that they did not want to take you up on your offer to serve them. This is not about you, Mr. Dion, ... this is about what Canadians wanted.

Move along.

Postscript:
However, if you are a practicing Liberal with a political deathwish ... you may want to join with other virtual lemmings .... HERE!

They didn't choose Jack Layton either (many times over) but I notice he's stuck around for a good long time.

Mr. Layton accepted the instructions of the people of Canada on Election Day without snivelling, pouting and hiding in his mansion.

Dion has never grasped what this is all about, right from the beginning.

I am stunned that so many Liberal bloggers want him to stay as their Leader. It is a political death wish ... being demanded by virtual lemmings!

Postscript:
Mr. Layton has steadily increased the seat number, membership and finances of the New Democratic Party since he became leader. '

Mr. Dion has seen a decrease in the seat number, membership and finances.

Big difference!

"Mr. Layton has steadily increased the seat number, membership and finances of the New Democratic Party since he became leader. '"

What does that have to do with your theme of "The role of a good 'leader' is to serve the people"? You theme for Layton seems to be that he's good for the Party.

Most Canadians clearly don't care.

Layton got less votes that Dion. Indeed, less Canadians voted for the NDP this time compared to last time.

And, oh yeah, Layton was not subject to the most intense propaganda smear campaign ever used against a single leader. Despite that, as the election neared its end, Dion's leadership approval number went way up, not down.

The topic of my post '"Troubles in 'Liberal Land', is not about Mr. Layton, but rather about the immature way that Mr. Dion is handling his defeat.

One of my readers, and very able blogger, woman at mile 0, made a rebuttal to my original post concerning Mr. Layton. I countered her observations with the remark that you are now quoting.

Many Liberals are NOT accepting their loss very well. There are references that you can find in psychology textbooks concerning the best way for people to deal with loss.

There is a process that those who have lost something dear need to go through in order to recover. The steps are:

1) Denial of the loss
2) Anger at the loss
3) Depression over the loss
4) Acceptance of the loss
6) RECOVERY

I am sorry to hear of your loss.

Why does it seem the NDPers are very happy that Steven Harper is still Prime Minister?

Who says we are happy with that? That is your weird Liberal logic at work! Your mind tells you that if we don't like Dion, we MUST like Harper. It is Poli-sci Kindergarten level.

"And, oh yeah, Layton was not subject to the most intense propaganda smear campaign ever used against a single leader. Despite that, as the election neared its end, Dion's leadership approval number went way up, not down."

Marc, what liberals decide is up to them. I do take some exception to your statement that Layton was not subject to the most intense smear campaign. Let's see, Taliban Jack and smilin' Jack, come to mind here, and I don't remember one liberal coming to his character defense.
Considering that Layton had to put up with both Conservative and Liberal smear machines, it is a bit "rich" for liberals to cry "foul" and take the "victim stance" now. The libs due protest too much!
Liberals who just love "smear campaigns" as we saw in the past election. In fact, one of the rich historical legacies of the liberal party are their "personal smear campaigns against fellow candidates.
You could say that liberals are just receiving their comeuppance or again paying their dues - as what goes around comes around. I think back to the character assassination of Stockwell Day. These "wars of attrition" dirty us all.

As I said at the beginning of the post, liberal leadership has nothin to do with me. Carry on!

I must add a meme, after reading that some libbloggers were going to go to Stornoway for a vigilance. It reminds one of the movie, The Green Mile, where Tom Hanks yells out, "dead man walking".

Sorry for your loss but don't give up hope.

Update to my last post. Dion resigns and stays on as leader. Liberal rendition of dead man standing and continues to walk the long "green mile."
