Guess Who Harper Is Leaving In Charge Of Canada's Food Safety?!
Yesterday I told you how the Harper government was putting Canadians health at risk in order to save $24 Million from Canada's food safety inspection budget.
Claiming that they are merely 'unfettering' Canada's food industry ... you may want to take a look at exactly WHO IT IS that Harper and the Conservative government is leaving in charge of monitoring your food safety and that of your children! The huge food industry will now monitor safety itself. This comes on the heels of a major academic study which finds that by and large, 'honesty' is a commodity that is unknown to many food processing companies.
"Food products marketed to children have poor nutritional content 90% of the time, even though some of the manufacturers still make health claims, shows the research of a University of Calgary professor.
Charlene Elliott is also a trustee of the Canadian Council of Food and Nutrition and studied 367 products, grading them on a 36-point scale, including such criteria as nutritional content and how packaging was designed to appeal to kids and parents. [...] Elliott found nine out of every 10 regular food items aimed at kids had poor nutritional quality stemming from high levels of sugar, salt or fat."
